Leaving aside the aesthetic value, there are a number of benefits provided by the plants. The chief amongst them being "The Health Benefit". It is a common knowledge that during photosynthesis, the plants the plants take in carbon-di-oxide and give out oxygen. This process itself clears the pollutants and freshens up the air around us. In order to get optimal benefits out of the indoor plants, they require special care, and have to be nurtured with due care.
The indoor plants require good lighting. Although natural sunlight is the best, but in its absence, artificial electric lighting can also serve the purpose. The plants with dark leaves usually don't need much light, and can survive in shady areas. Some varieties such as Philodendrons, Boston ferns, African violets, Cyclamens and Creeping Fig are especially suited for indoor gardening as they require very medium to low lighting.
Water
The indoor plants should never be over-watered. It may lead to rotten roots. Every variety of plant has its own watering requirement. Do a careful research on the variety you have gone in for and its watering needs. And don't forget the drainage aspect, or else it would spoil your beautiful interiors.
Choosing a Pot
Select good quality attractive colourful containers for the indoor plants. Always use clean pots for the plants, Contaminated pots will result in infection and retard the healthy growth of your plants.
Humidity Humidity is another factor which affects the growth of indoor plants. The plants need a lot of moisture during early mornings. For this purpose you could use a spray to water them. The dust on the leaves also hampers the healthy growth, as it slows down the process of photosynthesis by which the plants get their nourishment. So keep the leaves clean, and ocassionally wipe them with a moist cloth.
Fertilizers Apart from the water requirement, every plant has its own need of fertilizer as well. However if you provide proper lighting, water and humidity, the plants may not require much fertilizer. Lots of good indoor fertilizers are available in the market.
